The Anthem of the Heart Anime Film's TV Ads Streamed ANN NEWS

Film by anohana, Toradora! staff opens in Japan on September 19 / PARTIAL QUOTE

Japanese pop culture news website Natalie began streaming two television commercials on Monday for The Anthem of the Heart, the upcoming original anime film from the anohana and Toradora! anime staff.

The official English website for the film describes the story:

Jun is a girl whose words have been sealed away. She was once a happy girl, but because of a [certain thing] she said when she was very young, her family was torn apart. One day, the egg fairy appeared in front of her and sealed away her ability to talk in order to stop her from hurting anybody else. Since this traumatic experience, Jun lives in the shadows away from the limelight. But, one day she is nominated to become an executive member of the "community outreach council." On top of that, Jun is also appointed to play the main lead in their musical...

Aniplex of America announced in February that it has licensed the film. The film will open in Japan on September 19. The film will also screen with English and Simplified Chinese subtitles in four theaters in Japan from October 17-23 as part of the "YOKOSO! EIGAKAN!" program. The screenings will also offer The Anthem of the Heart-themed popcorn sets and drinks for sale at the theater.

The film reunites staff members from the anohana and Toradora! anime. Tatsuyuki Nagai (A Certain Scientific Railgun, Waiting in the Summer) is again directing the film at the studio A-1 Pictures. Mari Okada (M3 the dark metal, Hana-Saku Iroha) is writing the script, and Masayoshi Tanaka (Highschool of the Dead, Joshiraku) is designing the characters. Like the anohana anime, the story of the new film will be set in Chichibu. The idols of the Nogizaka46 group are contributing their 13th single, "Ima, Hanashitai Dareka ga Iru" (Now, There Is Someone I Want to Talk With) as the film's theme song.

Rumiko Takahashi's RIN-NE Manga Gets 2nd Anime Season in Spring 2016

New 25-episode season to introduce new characters ANN NEWS

NHK's Anime World Blog announced on Monday that Rumiko Takahashi's RIN-NE (Kyōkai no Rinne) manga is getting a second season in spring 2016. The second season will introduce new characters to the series, and will air for a planned 25 episodes. The staff introduced a new visual featuring new some of the new characters:

The announcement describes the second season as follows:

The shinigami (god of death) Rinne Rokudō, and Sakura Mamiya, the girl who can see ghosts, attend the same school. The two spend their days solving the worries of spirits. Rinne is so poor that he is forced to borrow money from Sakura to buy shinigami tools to solve their cases. Rinne and Sakura care for each other, but their relationship is not progressing. However, with the appearance of a new contracted black cat, a beautiful damashigami (cheating god), and a person with whom Rinne shares a special circumstance, the situation becomes even more chaotic! Rinne and Sakura's after-school time wrapped up in the world of spirits continues!

The 41st issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine issue had teased last Wednesday that the 42nd issue would have an "important announcement" for the manga this week.

Viz, the publisher of most of Takahashi's manga in North America including RIN-NE, describes the manga's story:

As a child Sakura Mamiya mysteriously disappeared in the woods behind her grandma's home. She returned whole and healthy, but since then she has had the power to see ghosts. Now a teenager, she just wishes the ghosts would leave her alone! At school, the desk next to Sakura's has been empty since the start of the school year. Then one day her always-absent classmate Rinne Rokudo shows up, and he's far more than what he seems!

The first television anime adaptation premiered on April 4 on the public broadcaster NHK's E Tele channel. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for release in North America.

Takahashi created such manga as Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, and Urusei Yatsura before she began serializing RIN-NE in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2009. Shogakukan will publish the 27th compiled book volume in Japan on September 18, while Viz Media will publish the 19th compiled volume in English in November.

"Luger Code 1951" story by Ryoto Hagi will receive manga this year, anime adaptation in 2016 ANN News

Shonen Jump+, Animax's Scenario Writing Award Winner Announced

Shueisha and Animax Broadcast Japan announced the winner of its Shonen Jump+ x Animax Anime Scenario Award on September 8. Ryōto Hagi won the award with the story "Luger Code 1951."

The story centers around the young linguistic genius and university professor Testa. He is introduced by his senior, Sergeant Rossa, to the Allied Cryptanalysis Department. There, he is tasked to break the enemy werewolves' code, which the werewolves are using to encrypt their radio transmissions. Testa is astounded, as the only sound the encrypted code produces is the howling of a wolf. His research yields no results, and he resolves to capture a live werewolf for better cryptanalysis. After exhausting all possible means, he finally finds a female werewolf, Yonaga.

The announcement also describes the story's cast of characters (No official romanization for the characters exists yet):

Testa Lielbelle (17 years old)
A genius boy and master of all the languages of the countries that fought as part of the Allied Forces in World War II. He wrote and published a thesis on cryptanalysis, and became a university professor. He suffered from bullying during his time in boarding school. He is a civilian.

Alex Rossa (21 years old)
A young sergeant in the Allied Forces, and Testa's upperclassman during their time at a boarding school. He constantly wears his country's khaki uniform and beret. He grew up as the son of a hunter, and is thus an expert marksman. He always carries two compact pistols, which he wields in either hand.

Yonaga A werewolf girl. She has a human body, but has the ears and tail of a grey wolf. The beasts who grow fangs like a werewolf's can no longer transform, but they hold a mysterious power.

Hagi will receive 2 million yen (about US$17,000) for winning the contest. "Luger Code 1951" will also be adapted into a manga within the year in Shonen Jump+, the digital manga service run by Weekly Shonen Jump's editors. Animax will air an anime adaptation of the story next year.

The panel of judges who chose the winner include: Medaka Box artist Akira Akatsuki, Kuroko's Basketball creator Tadatoshi Fujimaki, School Rumble creator Jin Kobayashi, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Junjō Romantica director Chiaki Kon, Precure scriptwriter Yoshimi Narita, Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Yoshihisa Heishi, and Animax president and representative director Masao Takiyama. The announcement posted comments by Akatsuki, Fujimaki, Kobayashi, and Heishi.

The theme of the contest was "your original scenario in the image of Shonen Jump." The contest accepted unpublished entries that could be made into an anime 30 to 40 minutes in estimated length. The contest launched last December.

Shueisha and Animax Broadcast Japan also announced that they will host the new Seiyū (Voice Actor) Dream Audition contest for voice actors. The winner of the contest will debut in the anime adaptation of "Luger Code 1951." The contest is open to those aged 13 and up, except for those currently employed or affiliated with an acting agency, or currently negotiating a contract with one. The contest is, however, open to former voice actors who have not been employed in such a capacity since January 1, and those enrolled in voice actor training schools.

The entries will undergo two preliminary judging rounds, and an audition in the final round will determine the winner. Shueisha and Animax have not yet announced the judges, but the judges will be comprised of people on the "front lines" of the anime and voice acting industry.

‘Dagashi Kashi’ Manga Speculation Runs Wild

Posted by Chris Beveridge The Fandom Post

Dagashi Kashi Volume 1 Cover As inconceivable as it may seem, there may be a new cooking anime series in our future.

Shocking, right?

The Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is now teasing that the 2014 manga series from Kotoyama called Dagashi Kashi may be in line for an anime of some sorts. With its focus on sweets and cooking, it falls in line with a good number of other manga series and recent anime adaptations that have hit fans in the last year or two in a big way and in varying ways. Kotoyama’s series is pretty recent but the third volume comes out in a month on October 16th, 2015, and we expect to see a wraparound on it before then announcing an adaptation.

The series is Kotoyama’s first.

Plot concept: Shikada Kokonotsu’s father owns a rural sweets shop, and his plan is for Kokonotsu to take it over one day. However, Kokonotsu wants to be a manga author instead! One day in summer, the cute but weird girl Shidare Hotaru, from the famous sweets company, comes to pay a visit. Apparently, Kokonotsu’s father is famous and she wants him to join her family’s company. However, he will only agree if she can convince Kokonotsu to take over the family business!
