Author Cherry Arai's ( Engaged to the Unidentified ) Sansha Sanyo 4-Panel Manga Gets Anime Adaptation
ANN NEWS

Comedy series about 3 female high school students with different personalities launched in 2003

The cover of the October issue of Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine is revealing on Wednesday that Cherry Arai's Sansha Sanyō four-panel manga is getting an anime adaptation. The announcement does not specify the format of the anime.

The comedy manga follows the everyday life of three very different high school students, all of whom have the kanji for "leaf" in their name. ("Sansha Sanyō" is a Japanese idiom that means three people who have different personalities to the other two, but the manga's title replaces the final kanji in the idiom with the kanji for "leaf.") Futaba Odagiri is incredibly energetic but is also a glutton. Teru Hayama looks like an angel but she is really a demonic class president. Yōko Nishikawa is the daughter of family that used to be a member of the upper class, but after her father's company went bankrupt, they became poor.

Arai launched the series in Manga Time Kirara in its February 2003 issue, and Houbunsha published the 11th compiled volume in August 2014.

Arai's Engaged to the Unidentified (Mikakunin de Shinkōkei) comedy four-panel manga previously inspired a television anime series that premiered in January 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video in February.

Under the Dog Anime Project Streams New Trailer ANN NEWS

Kickstarter-funded anime aiming for spring 2016 release

The official website for the Kickstarter-funded anime project Under the Dog began streaming a trailer on Monday. The anime is currently slated to debut in spring 2015.

Producer Koji Morimoto commented that the new trailer features some settings and backdrops that were changed from the original pilot trailer (below) in order to better fit the original ideas of story-writer Jirō Ishii.

The project aims to carry the tradition of older science-fiction anime titles such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell. The production team used Kickstarter in order to avoid the process of funding from production committees and therefore retain creative control of the anime. The project met its minimum US$580,000 goal on Kickstarter last September and eventually raised US$878,028 in Kickstarter pledges.

Masahiro Ando (Hana-Saku Iroha, Blast of Tempest) is directing the anime based on a story by Jirō Ishii (428: In a Blockaded Shibuya, producer on Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors). Yuusuke Kozaki (Fire Emblem: Awakening) is designing the characters, Kinema Citrus is in charge of animation, and Orange Co. (Ghost in the Shell Arise) is in charge of 3D CGI.

Kinema Citrus is now also managing the project after the departure of Creative Intelligent Arts (CIA) founder and CEO Hiroaki Yura, the original producer. Yura explained, "In order to comply with certain requests from members of the UTD creative team, and to deliver an unhindered product to our backers, CIA is hereby removing itself from the UTD project."

Official Website Introduces "JK-MESHI!" TV Anime for Fall Season
Original anime series will debut on Tokyo MX on October 05, 2015

Paul Chapman CR NEWS

A new TV anime entitled JK-MESHI! has been announced with the launch of an official website. Details are currently scarce, although "JK" in Japanese is an abbreviation for "joshi kōsei" ("high school girl") and "meshi" generally means "cooked rice" or "meal", so in all likelihood JK-MESHI! is a show about young women engaged in cooking adventures.

While fans are already speculating that this series may be CG animated or in a short episode format, all that is known for certain presently is that JK-MESHI! is scheduled to premiere on Tokyo MX on October 05, 2015.

Paul Chapman is the host of The Greatest Movie EVER! Podcast and GME! Anime Fun Time.
