Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju TV Anime Premieres in January ANN NEWS

The September issue of Kodansha's good! Afternoon magazine announced on Friday that the television anime of Haruko Kumota's historical manga Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū (Shōwa Genroku Era Comic Storytelling) will premiere on MBS' "Animeism" programming block in January.

The manga's seventh volume bundled a "Yotarō-hen Zen-pen" (Yotarō Arc Part I) original anime DVD (OAD) on March 6. A second OAD, "Yotarō-hen Kō-pen" (Yotarō Arc Part II), shipped with the eighth manga volume on Friday.

The story of the original anime DVDs revolves around a mature prisoner (played by Tomokazu Seki) who was released on good behavior during Japan's Showa Genroku era (1960s to early 1970s). He is called Yotarō by others, a term that means an "anti-hero" or a "dim-witted man." When he returns to society, he starts a new life in rakugo (comic storytelling). Touched by Yakumo's (played by Akira Ishida) role as the "grim reaper," he asks the master to take him in as an apprentice.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes Gets New Anime Project by Production I.G in 2017
ANN NEWS

Yoshiki Tanaka's space opera novel series spawned previous video anime series in 1988-2000

Production I.G opened a website on Thursday to announce that it will produce a new anime project based on Yoshiki Tanaka's The Legend of the Galactic Heroes novels in 2017. The tagline on the official website states, "In 2017, the history of the galaxy will once more..."

A stage production of the novels had announced last year that a new anime adaptation was in the works

. The new anime is not a remake of the earlier anime, but another anime adaptation of the original novels with a new staff. Production I.G's website does not confirm if its project is the one announced during the stage play run.

Yoshiki Tanaka's space opera novel series follows the epic conflict between the Galactic Empire and Free Planets Alliance, as well as the personal stories of Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the Alliance's Yang Wen-Li. The 10 main novel volumes and four side-story volumes in The Legend of the Galactic Heroes saga have sold 15 million copies and earned Tanaka a Seiun Award. Besides Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Tanaka also wrote the original novel inspirations for The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Ryoko's Case File, Sohryuden - Legend of the Dragon Kings, and Tytania anime projects.

Viz Media's Haikasoru imprint has licensed the original novel series and plans to release the first three novels in spring 2016.

The late director Noboru Ishiguro (Macross, Orguss, Megazone 23) and his Artland anime studio spent more than a decade adapting the novels into a theatrical and video anime franchise, with over 100 installments, from 1988 to 2000. Sentai Filmworks has licensed the video anime series for home video.

DD Fist of the North Star Gets New TV Anime in October ANN News

Adaptation to air alongside Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji in late-night timeslot

The wraparound band on the sixth volume of Kajio's DD Hokuto no Ken (DD Fist of the North Star) manga spinoff of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Fist of the North Star manga is revealing on Thursday that the manga is getting a new television anime adaptation in October.

The announcement lists the title of the anime as DD Hokuto no Ken 2 Ichigo Aji+ (DD Fist of the North Star 2 Strawberry Flavor Plus), and states that the anime will air on TV Tokyo starting on October 6. The show will air on Tuesdays at 1:35 a.m.

The announcement does not specify if the adaptation of DD Hokuto no Ken will air as part of the same program as the anime adaptation of Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji, which is also slated to premiere in October. The announcement does state, however, that the "two works will have a simultaneous broadcast."

Kajio's spinoff gag manga previously inspired a DD Hokuto no Ken short anime, which was a series of anime shorts that premiered in 2011. The manga also inspired another television anime series that premiered in 2013.

The manga is set "in the year 199x, mankind was … not engulfed in the flames of nuclear war?

"In the 21st century, the characters of Fist of the North Star are living in peaceful Japan. In particular, Kenshirō is a convenience store worker, Raoh works at a factory, and wracked by illness, Toki is looking for work. The legend of the Fighting NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) North Star begins in the modern day."

Kajio launched the manga in Monthly Comic Zenon's first issue in October 2010.

Buronson and Tetsuo Hara — the creators of the original Fist of the North Star post-apocalyptic fighting manga — are credited with the original work for the Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji spinoff gag manga. Yūshi Kawata writes the manga's scenarios, Imōto Yukito draws the manga, and Yukito is credited with collaboration.

The gag manga centers on a fun version of the Holy Emperor Souther as he tries to find ways to become friends with Kenshirō, demonstrates his party techniques, and sometimes plays with the Gosha Sei.

Imōto Yukito, Yukito, and Kawata launched the manga on Tokuma Shoten's Web Comic Zenyon website in 2013, and the publisher shipped the fourth compiled volume in June.
