Sorry for the necro, but I have a question: is anyone still having trouble using CR on Roku? I'm thinking of getting Sling, and that comes with Roku Express... Also, is there any difficulty signing in on Roku? I ask because I've strictly been using my laptop for CR.

Not just a necro, but one of a thread that should have been closed long ago in favor of the most recent update... /forumtopic-930081/crunchyrolls-roku-app-gets-a-makeover

As for Roku:

I've never had a problem playing any episodes with a Roku-3 (at one time this was the top of the line model, now replaced with something else) other than that the app takes a while to initialize. Oh, but there is one thing that's a CR app issue, the "full catalog" stripes, like popular, alphabetical, etc only go up to 999 shows. If you want to search for something past the letter "T", you have to do it on the web and add it to your queue there to have it show up in the app's queue. The app menu is also a little bit odd to navigate for certain things until you get used to it, and you can only rearrange the queue order on the web (this is true of all device CR apps though, not just Roku).

With my Roku TV, I still have problems with some shows (at least two older ones, haven't tried them all), but this last update seems to have fixed most of the current ones, at least. The TV has bottom of the line processors, similar to the original stick, and no ethernet port (wireless only unless you do some unsupported things), kind of comparable to what the (also bottom of the line) Express will probably be like, without even a possibility of hacking the wired/wireless issue.

Express will also only deliver up to 1080p resolution for any app on it (depending on where you are in the world and the Qos you get on your internet connection, this might still choke on CR's adaptive streaming...), and has a basic remote with no headphone jack or voice control (never mind that voice control doesn't work within the CR app anyway).

For these reasons I have stayed away from any of the budget models of Roku hardware, but it might work; I can't say for certain that it won't, because I don't actually have one of those. I have seen occasional reports from Stick model owners saying they have the same issue that the TVs have though.

Logging in is actually the easiest thing to do. After installation of the app, push pause/play to go to settings to log in, and you get a divided screen. The right side will display a code that you enter here on the web: /activate and you're done. You could enter your ID and password, instead, but that's a pain entering characters with the remote control's directional buttons.

Do you have the option to return it if you don't like it? Unless someone who actually uses one reports in, the only thing to do is to try it yourself... Or do they offer something of a discount to get a better model? (the Ultra with 4K/UHD/HDR, better processors, headphone jack for private listening, USB port, rj45 port, voice controls is $90 on sale now) There's a noticeable menu lag difference between my TV and my Roku-3 box, so better processors do make a difference.

I'm not getting the latest update. My Cruncyroll version is still Version 3. Is this update region specific?

I'm not sure if this is an issue for anyone else, but on my Roku there is no autoplay feature where it will just continue playing the next episode, no option to just skip to the next episode either.
It's rather annoying because that feature is there in both android and iOS for me, and obviously on PC, but if I'm on the Roku I have to go back to the main show menu to click the next episode, there is no way for me to get to the next episode other wise even after the episode is done. It just turns into one big black screen.
I have the Roku Streaming Stick + and everything is currently up to date. It's just been an ongoing issue I've noticed between platforms that's rather irritating and a lot more cumbersome if you just want to binge a show.

Try pressing the right direction > on the navigation cross (not fast forward) instead of the back arrow, as long as you aren't on the last available episode. That works on my Roku models, but possibly doesn't work on them all... Not a fix, but less annoying.

Saludos, me gustaría saber si existe un modo para habilitar la reproducción continua de capítulos en el Roku. Tengo un Roku Streaming Stick+, pero sino le doy avanzar cuando termina un episodio no avanza al siguiente. Agradezco su colaboración.

Greetings, I would like to know if there is a way to enable continuous playback of episodes in the Roku. I have a Roku Streaming Stick +, but it only advances to the next chapter if I do it with control, and I would like it to be done automatically. I appreciate your collaboration.

So annoying using my Roku. Literally video freezes like every minute while the sound keeps going. I have to rewind and play. Same connection to my phone and No issues. Now I remember why I stopped watching on my roku and why I didn’t continue my premium for a while. Others have the same issue so maybe there needs to be a fix instead of e-mails with generic responses, silence in regards to the many posts here over the years. Ridiculous.

I've been watching Crunchyroll on various Roku boxes for several years now - I'm not sure exactly when it changed, maybe a handful of months ago, but it no longer takes you to the next episode (or even back to the list of episodes for the show) when an episode ends - but it used to work that way.

What changed? And what can be done to fix it?

Who knows what they did, or if it will get fixed. It's been like that a while now. Mine only does it occasionally though, not all the time.

The best you can do at present is to press right arrow > on the navigation cross control to start the next episode if there is one. But if you are at the last episode that won't do anything. All you can do then is to back out.

Thanks for that suggestion - I gave it a try (when re-watching an old episode of Wakakozake Season 2) and it did indeed advance to the next episode upon pressing the > button (with the remote for my Roku Ultra) - but the fact that otherwise the screen just sits there blank after watching any episode is clearly not a proper user experience...

(BTW, I've been watching mostly anime now for a couple of years, and just for a change of pace the other day I watched a random dorama, "Karate Girl" - the star of that show looked very familiar, and suddenly it occurred to me that she was Rina Takeda, the star of the live-action Wakakozake series that I had thorougly enjoyed binge watching - two full seasons, in fact - before I ever discovered anime on Crunchyroll - somehow just watching her eat beautifully-prepared Japanese dishes while sipping sake or gulping down a beer or two was very satisfying... - pshuuuu!)
