That's standby mode. It is a built in feature of your vita and as far as I know you cannot turn that feature off (you can set it to a maximum of 10 minutes though in Settings->Power Save Settings). My guess is that since the vita uses OLEDs it is susceptible to screen burn in, so it would be unfortunate if someone turned off their auto standby mode and left their vita on accidentally and then woop there goes your beautiful OLED screen.

If you want a quick fix for it, grab a rubber band and wrap it around the two joysticks. I'm pretty sure this works from what I've read but I haven't tested it personally (nor will I for fear of forgetting and causing burn in ).

So while watching a video, my screen dims after a few minutes like its power saving and getting ready to turn off...

The thing is, the dimming shouldn't happen while in the middle of playing a video. Netflix doesn't do this, YouTube doesn't either. I can understand it if I am not "playing," i.e. paused, but not mid video. I have started to press the square button every 3 minutes.

Is this seriously just a cheap port straight to vita, full of all the ps3 bugs and without consideration for it's unique features?

EDIT: And how did this all get past QA? Really?

To prevent the screen from dimming, you can leave a finger on the back touchpad while holding the Vita.

I'll try this. If so, maybe that explains how it got past QA.

I tried it, and it is awesome!

Just one thing though...

The Vita still attempts to enter into sleep mode while the videos are streaming, and it becomes a minor annoyance when you have to move something to light up the screen again. is it possible to make it so that the videos act like a constant act while being streamed, and does not cause the vita to enter standby mode?

But Wii U is totally doable. Nintendo works great with indies and would probably be more than willing to help. You make it sound like it's such a huge endeavor to develop the app for the Wii U. It wouldn't be any harder than the PS3 and 360 app was.

You are equating working with independent game developers with independent app developers. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand.

If Nintendo is so accepting of independent streaming video apps on the Wii U, where are the video apps beyond the 3 big services (Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video) that I mentioned earlier?

Okay, am I the only who's been having this problem with the app? When you leave the PS Vita alone, it goes into sleep mode EXCEPT if a video is playing. Same thing if you're watching something on YouTube and Netflix. So why does it go into sleep mode when I'm trying to watch a anime with the Crunchyroll app? Is there an option I don't see that will fix it? It's annoying to have to keep tapping on the screen to keep the thing from going into sleep mode while I'm trying to watch Kill la Kill.

Do you not read back even three posts, ironhead78 and jordancharacter? I was -just- saying this. "Am I the only one?" Lol.

The app for the vita will eventually have an update, well maybe... Considering it took 2 years for the app to be made hopefully this one won't again. The problem now is the sleep mode feature and everything else is just about right.
