If you guys made one for the Vita, then there's no excuse now!

Apps created for Sony game systems: 3

Apps created for Nintendo game systems: 0

Have you ever considered the problem might be Nintendo?

If CR could get on Nintendo platforms, aiming for the DS would make a lot more sense than the Wii U. The latter has sold less than 6 million units, while the former has sold almost 155 million (and that is without including the over 42 million 3DS units sold):

Also, CR developing a Vita app may have been part of the deal for them to get on the PS3 originally, and it probably re-uses a lot of the PS3 app code.

Both of them have dark screen problem. I think Sony provided a "universal video streaming app" for developers. Developers only need to change the color of the app and put their own contents in it. This dark screen problem is in this "universal video streaming app". But youtube is completely different. I believe youtube app is special made.

That sounds quite likely ... it seems that the app that Crunchyroll was working on, which was behind the premature "coming soon" teasers, ran into bugs with Sony's system. So if Sony developed their Crackle app (Crackle is Sony) as a platform for general use, that would give Crunchyroll a way around those problems.

Also likely means that another place to clamor for fixing the screen dimming bug is at Crackle ... as if Sony fixes it for Crackle, there's a good chance Crunchyroll will inherit the fix.

Why would Nintendo be the problem? Unless it has to be with licensing issues then I see no problem.

First off, the DS is out of the question. It's a dead console. Plus it couldn't handle streaming.

Second, Vita is selling horribly just like the Wii U so don't try to bring sales into this. And if you went by sales logic, it would make way more since to release an app for the 3DS because it's selling great and has a big install base.

Releasing an app for Wii U wouldn't be a big deal at all (again, assuming that there's no licensing issues).

If apps on Nintendo aren't a problem, then tell me what streaming video apps there are on the Nintendo 3DS except the big 3 (Netflix, Hulu Plus, and YouTube?). On the Wii U, what streaming apps are available except Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu Plus?

BTW, thank you for agreeing with me it would make more sense to release a 3DS app before one for the Wii U. Now ask yourself what possible reason(s) CR might have for not having done so. Is it because they don't like money, or because something is making it difficult for them to do so?

You also appear to have missed my assertion that CR may have been required to commit to a Vita app as a condition for getting on the PS3. If that were the case, the sales (at over 7.6 million sold, still better than the Wii U) for it would be irrelevant.

I don't get what you're trying to point out in your first point. Wii U and 3DS both have all the basic streaming apps, just like PS3 and Vita.

The only reason I could think of is because of licensing issues. Besides some extra time and effort, releasing a Wii U/3DS app wouldn't be that big of a problem.

And about the possible Sony contract: wouldn't CR release information that they were in one? Also CR made an app for Xbox so, this contract with Sony is either very short or just nonexistent. If there's no contract, then I don't get why there hasn't been an app for Wii U.

I wish a staff members could come on here and clear this up.

I'm interested for the Sony Blu-Ray player I have, so I might watch CR on my TV? I imagine when it's on the PS3/4 as well? Grand, if it happens.

I don't doubt given the Sony labyrinth it's not so simple, but here's hoping.

The two main problems in rolling out an app for a platform would be the nature of business arrangements for that platform and the level of development kit support provided for that platform. Licensing problems would indeed be an example of the first kind of problem.

Nintendo obviously doesn't go out of its way to make it easy to develop streaming apps for its 3DS/2DS devices, given the limited range of streaming services available for the device ... which are the three companies with the deepest pockets in the business.

LoomyTheBrew wrote: [(to The Ancient One)]: I don't get what you're trying to point out in your first point. Wii U and 3DS both have all the basic streaming apps, just like PS3 and Vita.

That Wii U and 3DS only have streaming support from the Big Three. When PS Vita's rollout of new streaming apps is finished this spring, they'll have The Big Three plus Crackle, Crunchyroll, NHL Gamecenter Live, Qello Concerts, Gaiam TV, and Redbox Instant, so obviously changes that Sony have made recently has made it substantially easier to provide a Vita PS streaming app.

Second, Vita is selling horribly just like the Wii U so don't try to bring sales into this. And if you went by sales logic, it would make way more since to release an app for the 3DS because it's selling great and has a big install base.

However, as described by another member above, the Crunchyroll app is effectively the same app as the Crackle app, with a different skin. Either Sony adopted Crunchyroll's app for Crackle, or (more likely) they took the occasion of developing the Crackle app to develop a general streaming app platform for the PS Vita.

Releasing an app for Wii U wouldn't be a big deal at all (again, assuming that there's no licensing issues).

Seems likely to be a high cost project with little prospect of making the cost back from incremental revenue.

FINALLY, JESUS.

Now I have a reason to buy membership again, and not sell my vita. I only use if for netflix, internet, and ps1 games, since the games are overpriced and extremely limited in any specific genre or play style. I don't like joke mini games either, and thats all that is coming out on the PSN.

Vita = arguably worst investment of my gaming life. It is less of a paperweight now. I expected it to be a gaming tablet, but it barely does games, let alone apps. Much hype, many sadness.

EDIT: 3ds would have been worse, don't take that last comment as an endorsement.
