Hey, you're absolutely right, I was using the app remote from my iPad and I always got the login error, then I followed your advice and I tried using the Apple TV remote and worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.

Why do you need a premium account to watch shows from your queue on the abysmal Apple TV app, but the same requirement does not exist on the PS4 or XO apps?

This is illogical and makes no sense.

If anyone is still having the Apple TV -Crunchyroll login issue just enter the all of your credentials manually with the Apple TV remote, when entering the username/email they must erase the username/email that auto populates and re-enter it manually using the Apple TV remote.

I Know it a pain in the ass but it works... If your still having issues with your login, just let me know I will walk you the the steps I took.
This is how I fixed my issue.

This does not fix your issue if you need to "re-enable" your subscription. As your account at CR is set as a basic member so you can't login with your credentials. CR need to fix their app ASAP! I have talked to Apple and they say it's the way CR uses the subscription/payment api they need to fix...

And yes, i have the same problem - Black screen as soon as i hit the "Restore via itunes" *sigh*
Did create a support ticket but they just closed it after to much rant - No help what so ever :-(

Also it's a very old app, it's from Oct 2015 back when the tvOS/AppleTV 4gen came out - Apple have since then made big updates both to the UI SDK but also the payment/subscription SDK part, and the person from Apple told me he suspected that they havn't updated their App and that might be the problem...

What seems to be the problem is their app don't really tell CR's own system that the user in fact has a valid subscription running.
I tested it (unwillingly) by letting my subscription run out, then i could use the "Get a free week" to activate the subscription again (and yes they took the money, no free week hehe ... sigh) and i could get into the app and watch anime. But as soon as i closed the app and tried to open it again, i was left with the black screen again as it could not login. And sure enough, they had not updated the status on CR from basic member to premium but the subscription was active and on auto renewal when i looked at itunes.

So yeah, thanks for snatching two months now, worth of creds from my itunes account ...

Hope you get this fixed soon so we can actually use CR on the new AppleTV (tvOS)

And for anyone who has the app working fine, DONT get your subscription canceled until they have fixed it as you can't re-enable/restore it again!

I think you need to enable subtitles and choose Arabic in the AppleTV system settings rather than in the Crunchyroll app.

I wish I had looked at the forums a couple days ago. I decided to subscribe again to CR after taking a break, and when I tried to subscribe with the Apple TV app, they took my money but wouldn't link the account. So basically, I can only watch premium on the Apple TV but not the web, even though I'm using the same account. CR support said they can't help me, and told me to just sign up with their web account instead. Great, why didn't they just remove the sign up feature on the Apple TV in the first place.

Oh, and get this, even though I signed up with the Apple TV, there is no restore functionality on the iOS versions, so, I'm out of luck. I'm requested for a refund/cancelation from Apple for the TV app purchase and will try to re-purchase either directly on CR or through their iOS app. Waiting on the refund, will see if that goes through.

Will the Crunchyroll app support the new "TV app" that Apple announced today? It's clear that some streaming services are in, and others are not, but it isn't clear how it all shakes out (except Amazon and Netflix are out)

Given CR isn't in the cross app search that seems pretty doubtful.

Yeah - doesn't look likely. I assumed it was some API that content providers could integrate with. But apparently not. Looks like it's only for the services that Apple wants to be in there.

My bet is that Apple doesn't want the database to go crazy with things like duplicates of shows. But it would be awesome to have Crunchyroll and shows from other more niche services to be in the new TV app. I think it would also make it easier for the feature to go international. In the US, I have it so good with dozens of apps supported this feature, but in many countries the only thing that can be searched for are iTunes Movies & TV Shows, and maybe Netflix.

Yeah.

In Australia I think there is 4 services including Apple and netflix accessible from cross app search. One is the main Netflix competitor, and the other is the catchup service for our equivalent to the BBC. Not incidently those apps are both always right up at the top of popularity rankings.

Of course I find siri voice recog so poor that trying it to recognise anime names would be an ordeal.

It does bum me out though that Apple never just made an API for app makers to hook into like Google has done. That of course doesn't mean app makers would use it. Crunchyroll certainly hasn't.

Looked at the TVOS update.

My initial complaint is that on the main screen shows are only identified by their posters, no text name underneath unlike when you go to the browse screen.

Also requiring manual logins in this day and age is dumb.

Also checking out the new tvOS app. Not sure why the news post for that disappeared. Guessing because it was a couple hours premature?

I like the home screen, and absolutely love how the Top Shelf takes me right to the last episode I was watching for the shows in the top of my queue.

My main complaints are around the My Queue tab. First, it's a bit slow with my queue that has a lot of items in it. Second, the titles for shows are too small. Remember, this is an interface for a TV that may be far away! Also, clicking on an item in my queue should take me to the page for that show. The play/pause button can be used to automatically play the episode I am on, like a lot of other apps do. And finally, history is missing! I do love the continue watching for shows that are in the Home screen, but I also like having my history.
