It's a bit like how I don't need to waste money buying a car if I use the perfectly good free alternative of stealing yours. Having said this it's bullshit that these streaming services offer us smaller and smaller pieces of the pie and yet seek to charge us the same amount or in some cases more for it.

If I had to buy 7 cars to drive 7 days a week... I'd likely just walk.

Pirating is a lot like walking. It's slower. It doesn't look as nice. However it's free and eventually it gets you there.

Seems like Funimation grabbed up like half the shows coming out this season, even pure moe stuff like Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san, which I 100% expected to be here.

I was honestly surprised Senkochan ended up on Funi, too, but doesn't affect me since I have ponied up for both.

Its only like walking if you are stealing other peoples shoes to do it.

The licensing limitations on each anime seem oddly arbitrary, considering that some animes give (relatively) unrestricted access while others don't. Even if both animes are from the same publisher. Which is the case with animes from Kadokawa, for example.

Is this more a case of the streaming service choosing to buy a limited license at a cheaper price? Are there any other possible explanations?

the reason might be that the companies selling the license want to earn as much money they can. thats why you see some licsensed anime have diffrent regions on multible services. also, take this with a grain of salt, but i do think in some cases companies do offer licenses to a wider audience, but in return they might ask for more money as a result. or it might be that simulcast services gets directly involved with production, wich gives them automaticly the rights to stream whatever they where involved with.

what it all boils down to is money. if one company offer the most money for a license, they are basiclly allmost garanteed getting it. thats how the world works, and i doubt its any diffrent in the anime industry. the once who gets the short straw is the audience, and i doubt this is ever going to change. one thing i hate is content segregation, and while it has gotten much better over the recent years, its still abit of a problem. look at how it used to be like 7-8 years ago. legal services was a pain in the ass for alot of people outside a few regions. paying for a service back then was a gamble outside a few countries due to how limited availability for licsensed anime was. most major anime titles back then bearly never got liscensed to a wider audience. there are allways winners and loosers , and the loosers i most cases are the viewers .

I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "steal."
