So far out of the girls, Uruka is the only one that feels like an actual character.

The other two feel like loosely defined character traits.

I mean...you aren't wrong. They skipped a chapter from the manga where the other two girls went to MC's house and had some fun interactions with his family that fleshed them out a tiny little bit more, but even in the manga, when Uruka shows up she kind of takes over the story for a while.

It’s not so much about her taking over the story, it’s that the other girls don’t seem to have personalities. They actually don’t even fit into tropes at this point, which NORMALLY would be a good thing, but it really isn’t when you don’t even have anything else to really define your personality. They are cute girls and that’s about it.

May have been easier for the author to work with the 'genius at sports', with her academics average.

I can imagine writing yourself into a corner with 'genius' characters that are too far beyond your comfort zone to get a handle on.

"They're geniuses -- but how do I get them to keep doing silly romcom stuff?"

Getting Rizu to do stupid romcom stuff should be easy because her problem is that she approaches everything like hard science, so not understanding basic human interactions is her jam.

Chapter 3 was the chapter I was thinking about them having skipped, but there was some stuff in chapter 5 (which they also skipped) that would have helped develop Fumino a little bit more

There wasn't a whole bunch in the manga, but there were some things that could have happened in the anime that would have made the geniuses seem less like background characters that have no personality.

After the end of that third episode I have to apologize. Sorry Uruka. Even solely for you. I cannot do it.

Ep 3

Poor Furuhashi, it seems like she's gotten way less development and screentime than the other two girls. Either that or she isn't very interesting because even her appearances in this episode felt like they were overshadowed by Uruka. She kinda steals the show, to be honest. I certainly don't mind Rizu though.

So Uruka takes care of Furuhashi when she's sick, she's athletic, great personality, cute as hell, knows how to cook, etc. It looks like there are still more characters yet to make an appearance, but I'm starting to doubt that any of them will be able to dethrone Uruka as best girl at this point.

Episode 4

Fumino is feeling heavy and decides to go on a diet. Of course, starving and buying all those snacks for late night studying isn't what she needs to do, but at least she got her weight back under control opting to just have thin noodles for a snack. Then Nariyuki has Rizu's friend Sekijo over for udon, and Sekijo wants her to continue on her career path in science. And then Uruka is so concerned about her chest that it affects her performance, but Nariyuki wasn't fazed by it. That was pretty amusing to see these girls overthinking things.

Well that was some unexpected nudity Love when the Japanese characters who would be considered anorexic in the US think they have to lose weight. I like the new girl but that's just a coincidence. And the only way guys notice Uruka is if there is some obvious nipplage, which given the opening scene I'm surprised they didn't draw.

Yeah Uruka is really the only character I really like in this. I honestly keep watching this solely for her.

Ep 4

Alright, Sawako is pretty cool. She seems like a science type but I doubt she is a genius on the same level as the other three girls. Probably better than Rizu at literature though. I hope she continues to show up.

Uruka still best girl.

I live for embarassed Uruka

Episode 5

Rizu gets lost in the forest during a field trip under a steady rain, and while she doesn't think Nariyuki would find her, he does thanks to the playing cards she dropped. And for that, they were punished by having to clean the baths, but that leads to even more trouble as Rizu forgot to hand the cleaning in progress tag. It's a good thing Sekijo was there to bail him out as she fully understood the situation. While Rizu is a genius, she's also quite forgetful and Nariyuki almost was ruined because of it.
