That how you do a training montage! Didn't expect to feel melancholy at the end.

Man, they're doing this series justice. At first I was super worried about how they'd animate the complicated robe designs, but they really hit this out of the park by making the action really fast and snappy while still having really strong, readable, moments that just make things work super well without having to individually animate each movement. It's kind-of a cost saving measure, but it also just looks really cool and, along with the crazy linework, it all helps give the series a really distinctive feel from other current anime.

I also appreciate the heck out of this entire training arc. I love that at first, they basically outline all of Tanjiro's weaknesses early on, mainly his hesitation and pacifism, so, when it gets to training, they just throw him on a mountain and keep putting him into situations where he has to react quickly and decisively while also forcing him to train his breathing with the thinner mountain air. And, turns out, learning to control your breathing actually is a real-world thing that's used by athletes to boost their performance, so good on this series for using reality to justify what makes its fighters special.

Heck, looking back, they even brought up Tanjiro's struggle to breathe in higher elevations in episode one while he's trying to carry his sister away, so that aspect of things was actually set up decently in advance.

Can't wait until the show gets to the other members of Tanjiro's group, which shouldn't be too long from now based on this progression! I'm already calling that a lot of people are going to despise or love Zenitsu, the blonde guy, but Boar-head is great and I dig everything about him, lol!

I couldnt shake the impression that Nezuko being asleep the entire 2 year period Tanjiro was training was for convenience.
Some of the animation in the middle was atrocious
but the way Sabito & Makomo appeared as hallucinations out of Tanjiro's mind as he trained to slice through the boulder was really good storytelling.
*I like the ending sequences they do on this

Finally, a training episode that doesn't skimp on the basics.

The first half of the episode had my rolling with laughter while the ending left me with a wistful smile.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba EP # 3 Sabito and Makomo

I am 50 / 50 on this EP In one aspect I could w/o a bunch of EPS about Tanjiro but to put a year and a half in one especially overlooking Nezuko constantly asleep then the breif encounterv with Sabito and Makomo not even worthy of the title

Woah that was good, really enjoying this show. Thought this would be a boring training montage, boy was I wrong. And maybe Nezuko is sleeping because she hasn't eaten anything, are Oni like vampires does she need human flesh or she'll die? I thought for sure she'd eat some of the dead people in the last episode, its not like her hands are tied and she can't just take off her bit.

Did I miss something, or did they explain why Nezuko has been asleep for this entire time. Tanjiro seems worried, but not as worried as I would think he would be.

It's not explained at the moment, but it dose get explained later. Without spoiling too much. Part of it was healing. Because she doesn't eat people she needs sleep to heal.
The other part however is a little more interesting.
Demons have a lot of shapechanging abilities, many of which are unique to the individual demon and their personality,
Nezuko was making some very specific changes to herself over those 2 years, that needed her full attention to do. Not sure if it is conciously or subconciously but she's done something very few demons have and it's actually pretty impressive

Despite the many positives of this show the cgi and some of the other animation in general are just to off putting for me.

They haven't explained it, but yeah, she's basically straight-up sleeping off the damage she took. Which is a bit of a plot convenience, but it's one of those times where having something convenient happen just helps the story overall because Nezuko just waiting at home away from the training wouldn't really make the events better. And since her being right in front of multiple demon hunters that might not be as understanding would probably lead to a situation that could feel off or hijack the plot a bit too much, her just being stuck asleep really does make the most sense for now.

This is the story of how Tanjiro became stronger on his own, with his journey as the focus. So it only makes sense that less relevant characters should be sidelined. And with how Nezuko can't really eat people, this makes enough logical sense as a consequence for Tanjiro's hesitation, to have her need to sleep to heal instead.

Speaking of Tanjiro, he probably should be a bit more concerned, but at the same time, it's not really like there's much he could do here. All he knows is that his Sister's in a coma but seems healthy otherwise, so there's not really much he can do outside of focusing on his training and hoping for the best. So not really much of a point in showing him getting too distracted over this, especially when the point is more the lengths Tanjiro had to go to to change himself.

I usually find training montages/episodes/arcs boring AF but I quite enjoyed this episode. The fight scenes were beautifully done and I'm loving the character designs.
