Tanny's VA is a bit too much. Thought the baby was his and Nezuko's, and all the boys and girls were his "siblings". She became quite the hellcat, though only Ol' Blue Eyes could handle her.
Overall it was pretty underwhelming.

Not very keen on the CGI snowy forest stuff at all. It made the initial scenes quite jarring. However other than that the first episode was pretty good so I'll give it a chance.

That was not what I was expecting from the cover art.

I'm getting a vague Claymore vibe, particularly with the brutality shown. That's a good thing as I love Claymore. Obviously this will be going in a very different direction but I'm on-board for the ride.

I would like it more if it would not appear that her mouth is now tucked closed for the rest of the show and she would have kept some sanity, at least during the day or something like that. Well.... lets see where this is leading...

Hey actually I liked that piece, because it's an solution they might come up with in traditional Japan, using the bamboo her mouth must be hidden because she's a demon. Yet allowed to live. To think of all the ways demons have interacted with humans in anime, sometimes they are hunted and killed but sometimes they interact with humans as both sides are mindful of the other. It's not a matter of her having kept the sanity, but of how she'll learn to deal with her demon self and be able to regain it over time. The fact that she protected her brother would indicate that it's in fact possible. It's a unique take on a premise that's been around for ages.

That was alright, took no time to make the MC suffer. Interested on where this will go and maybe we'll get some good action scenes and story.

This show is visually stunning, not surprising given it is being made by ufotable. Tanjiro sure had a big darn family, and his mom didn't look any older than his sister Nezuko there in the beginning.

It seemed odd to me that when the old man told Tanjiro he needed to stay at his place because the demons would attack at night, Tanjiro kind of acted like he didn't believe in or know what the old guy was talking about. If demons were that prevalent, it's surprising that his house out in the middle of nowhere hadn't been attacked before it was. I guess maybe that will be explained later in the show.

I ended up reading the manga on this one and without spoiling anything, basically it's a low fantasy setting where the legends about man eating demons are viewed by much of society as just legends or superstition. Demons are relatively rare and secretive beings but they are indeed very real as we have already seen.

The visuals made it seem like it was very late 19th century, or early 20th century Japan. There definitely seemed to be power lines, possibly telegraph lines, but more likely power lines in the town he was selling the charcoal to.

Another thing I didn't mention....if demons eat humans, I wouldn't have expected the full bodies of Tanjiro's family to be left to bury. Unless the demons only eat their blood, or their soul, or their fear, or what have you. Or perhaps attacking humans is the only way they reproduce, and only certain humans can become demons by being attacked and everyone else just dies.

Some more thoughts...I am working my way through the thread, and some people are complaining about Tanjiro's sense of smell. I wonder if the scar on his forehead has something to do with that. Maybe that wound somehow heightened his sense of smell. Maybe the wound was caused by a demon, and he has some sort of immunity to turning into a demon, but he gained the acute sense of smell because of it.

Ep 1

I was watching the first episode and thinking to myself about how wholesome Tanjiro and his family seem. I guess that means they weren't likely to survive very long. Still, definitely a brutal scene to come home to, and Tanjiro is already blaming himself to some degree for the death of most of his family.

Poor Nezuko, I wonder if she understands what happened to her family? If Tanjiro's sense of smell is right, she wasn't the demon that murdered everyone but she might not even realize they are dead since she obviously isn't in control of herself. It'd be pretty hype if Nezuko gets to fight in her demon form (which I imagine she will). She is pretty cute tbh.

Solid premiere, and of course ufotable has top tier visuals making this a natural front-runner for AOTS.

Episode 2

With Nezuko wearing that mouthguard to keep her demon instincts in check, that means she can't talk. And while she's acting on demon instincts, she's proving to be a useful ally as she's powerful. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that she's no longer the sister she knew. And it turns out that demons are much like vampires in that they are weak to sunlight. Sakonji lets Tanjiro know that his resolve is weak, so he has some extreme training in store for him.

Episode 2

Nezuko in a basket lol

It looks like the show has a running gag of Tanjirou running into bloody or death scenes constantly now. I thought this episode captured the feeling of horror kinda well. The soundtrack made the scenes felt more thrilling too.

Tanjirou still has a lot to learn especially about fighting and surviving if you ask me though. He should be more careful.

E2

That demon fight was fun, and a little freaky. A taster of what's to come.
It's pretty cool to see Nezuko kick some ass too, even if she's relegated to being a cat outside of combat

The latter half of the episode felt like your standard shounen fare though, but looks like we might see two new characters next week.
