4/30: First Update
5/13: Second Update
6/18: Third Update

Probably my last update this season. Despite my reservations this Spring, it's been a great host of shows that I've enjoyed. Lots of drama picks that I absolutely loved, and some supernatural/historic series I never expected to enjoy, but have been fascinated through and through. A little disappointed that some romance picks didn't deliver as strongly as the Winter season, but nonetheless, the SoL's were nice and comfortable throughout the season. With both Fruits Basket and Carole & Tuesday being multi-cour shows, it's hard this season to pick a decisive winner as my favorite - that overall battle will probably be settled in a few seasons.

So far this season might actually be my first bomb. No series are keeping my interest let alone wowing me enough to warrant being added to my buy list. Doesnt help that funimation charged me for a month of premium then knocked me down to free after just 11 days.

Thank you. This season has been a complete zero in terms of new series for me.

I was curious about Fruits Basket because I saw the first one (not exactly worth it. this one seems far better) but even so, I lost my curiosity about it.

The story no longer fascinates me

Most shows are only up to 4 episodes, and it usually takes at least 6 episodes before I can really start choosing favorites...but I can certainly at least give preliminary thoughts.

piqued my interest, to the point that I expect really good things

Demon Slayer
Yu-No
Fairy Gone

What the heck is everyone complaining about, this is exactly what I wanted out of this show, and I am loving it so far

One Punch Man Season 2

A classic story, that I am liking so far, and will most probably keep liking, although it isn't my usual type of anime

Fruits Basket

Really cute anime that put a smile on my face

Senryu Girl
Helpful Fox Sneko-san
Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu

Cute anime, that know they are trashy, and they work with it pretty well

Why the Hell are you Here Teacher
Ao-chan Can't Study

Trashy anime that have enough moments to be enjoyable, but they will never rise above being trashy

Nobunaga Teacher's Young Bride
Amazing Stranger

Anime that have some stuff that give me pause, they could end up going in the right direction, or the wrong direction

Wise Man's Grandchild
Afterlost

Shows that I'm watching, but I can't honestly say I am enjoying that much. They aren't bad...but so far not good either

RobiHatchi
Midnight Occult Civil Servants

Shorts that rely very heavily on a schtick, I would have dropped them by now, but they are so short, why not just keep watching

Yatogame-chan Kanasatsu Nikki
Joshi Kausei

I swear I watched a show just like this last season...I can't tell which one is better yet, and honestly the one last season was only slightly above average anyway

We Never Learn

A show that just seems weird of the sake of being weird. I almost dropped it, but there may actually be a decent plot hidden in all the weirdness, I'll give it one more episode

Sarazanmai

Crossover show that I haven't watched any of shows from which it spun off, but I know enough about them that it should be funny, and the last episode was pretty funny

Isekai Quartet

I've only seen a single episode...will it be as good as Season 3 part 1, or will it be bad, like season 2?

Keep in mind, I'm not watching Bungo Stray Dogs until the story comes back to the present time. I made the mistake of watching from the beginning of Season 2, and I spent the first three episodes not enjoying the show because I was impatiently waiting for them to get back to where they left off with season 1. But then I rewatched Season 2 later and didn't mind. I'm also not watching Attack on Titan until I can binge the whole season because watching them sink from low point to low point from cliffhanger to cliffhanger every episode gets exhausting on a weekly basis.

I also have high hopes for Carol and Tuesday.

That said, Shows I'm watching on a regular basis:
.

1. Stop This Sound! I wasn't expecting much from this, and I'm usually a sci-fi/adventure/ action fan, but every now and then a show like this one or Gakuen Babysitter or Rascal does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai surprises me and becomes the show I wait for every week. This show is a little crazy dramatic for a slice of life, but I like it. It's got heart.

2. Wise Man's Grandson. I don't know why everyone keeps screaming about the isekai apocalypse. There are more sports shows and idol shows and girl adventure ensemble shows than Isekai every season, and most of them are crap too, but every time a new isekai comes around, some people start screaming. Look, an isekai! an isekai! It's the end of times! This is probably more a reflection of the genre's impact on light novels than its presence on anime.

3. One Punch Man. I'm watching this one for the story more than the animated fight scenes, but I'm enjoying it.

4. Demon Slayer. I'm watching this one for the animated fight scenes more than the story. I might not have this attitude if the show hadn't come so soon on the heels of Dororo.

5. Rising of the Shield Hero. Technically a holdover.

6. Isekai quartet Yes, (sob) I like isekai! Fine, where's the anonymous support group. I admit it, I watched The Keeper of Ragnarok and The Blesser of Einherjar and Death March to a Parallel Rhapsody too, but I felt really bad about myself later. Anyway, this isn't really a show so much as a "What if" blip on the radar, but it's s little bit cute.

7. Fruits Basket. Checked it out because I never watched the original and I'm still watching.

Shows I'm watching when I'm bored and have time on my hands.

Fairy Gone. The art's great - it really gives texture to a lost, desolate, devastated world. The voice acting is solid too. But something about the writing just doesn't reach me. I think it's because the story keeps referring to all these histories and back stories for the characters, but then it's on to the next seemingly spackled on fight scene. Total style over substance, and the animation is standard.

We Never Learn. Seems fairly benign as harem comedies go, whether you consider them must sees or tumors.

Shows I missed the last two episodes of but might watch again if I can't get to sleep,

Afterlost. Pretty much everything I said about Fairy Gone except it doesn't have great art or voice acting.

Midnight Occult Civil Servants. They should have called it Utterly lacking in suspense but moderately entertaining exercise in world building. Well, I guess that's a bit long. But it's nowhere near as edgy as a show with the words Midnight and Occult in the title should be.

Shows I tried, and no sir, I didn't like them though I fully acknowledge that tastes are subjective and everyone should watch what they like.

Black Clover. I tried half an episode a long time ago. Should I really try this show again? Usually I try to give shows on the edge an episode or two, but the MC was sooo annoying. The show wasn't on the edge. It started out screaming from the bottom of the pit.

Robihachi. Tries to be too many things at once in my opinion. Space Dandy. Cowboy Bebop. Gundam X!V.

Sarazanmi. I've heard people talking about what a genius this dude is. I don't know if it's an Emperoror's New Anime situation, or if I'm just not attuned, but I didn't grok it.

Ao Chan Can't Study. That weirdo dad creeped me out.

Mix: The old school style might be a genius homage to the original show that I never saw, but I just didn't engage.

Not a bad season as it stands, but not as good as the last two. If Bungo Dogs, Attack on Titan, and Carol and Tuesday pan out, I might change my mind.
