I vaguely remember reading this back in the day, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was getting an anime. So far, so good! I love the art style, the backgrounds are very painterly and the animation is very fluid. Definitely will be watching this on Mondays as soon as they premier.

So unless I am misinterpreting things, the baby would have been born without a head (and thus dead), if Buddha hadn't taken the hit.

Episode 2

That's pretty depressing to see Dororo being so talkative, while Hyakkimaru can't respond as he could neither see nor hear him. So the two end up in a village whose chief Bandai just so happens to be a demon taking the form of a lady without legs. As it turns out, one of the villagers made a deal with that devil to slay travelers and steal their money. That just goes to show that there are some benefits to being blind there as Hyakkimaru wasn't fooled by Bandai's appearance only seeing her malevolence. So far, this show has simply been great.

I think it's perfect so far and am pretty obsessed with the opening, a lot happened but nothing felt rushed so that was nice.

You're not the only one. So far it's my favorite show of the season. Clean animation, nice pace to the story telling, Rio Suzuki is going a fantastic job in her role as Dororo. and the OP is straight fire, damn it's so good!

I am digging this old man, I hope he becomes a regular. I wonder what that thing is with the big head and rings the bell. I like the explanation they gave about spirits and the fight scenes in this show are pretty spot on, hope the quality continues

Don't quote me (it's literally been a couple decades since I read the manga and caught a few episodes of the original) but I believe that was the spirit of the first traveler killed by Bandai.

I am wondering if he was at least left with a small intestine? Otherwise I don't know how just pure muscle could possibly gain nutrition from his meals. With the return of his nervous system though... don't think he'll be chowing down on fish bones as eagerly anymore.

Loving everything about this so far! I especially like the VA for Dororo... most "cute" voices are seriously annoying to me but this one is engaging and easy on the ears.
Hyakkimaru was clutching his eyes, I wonder if he will get conventional eyesight in addition to the soul-o-vision?

Blood Will Tell: Tezuka Osamu's Dororo, released as Dororo (どろろ) in Japan, is a PlayStation 2 game released by Sega. It is based on the Japanese manga series Dororo, which was created by Osamu Tezuka. It concerns a hero named Hyakkimaru, who has had much of his body stolen by forty-eight fiends, and has prosthetic replacements. Along with his ally, the thief Dororo, Hyakkimaru must defeat all forty-eight fiends.

So they also did a stage play of this with Suzuki Hiroki (the smoking hot God of Butai) as Hyakkimaru. He is also listed as Hyakkimaru's VA so I assume he'll get his voice back at some point. Really wondering how the stage handled the sword arms though.

Like the rest of you, enjoying this style of show.

The old guy helps us viewers a lot in understanding their world as Hyakkimaru's disabilities alone makes it extremely difficult to follow naturally.

This is just great! I am loving everything about this show. Definitely a standout compared to what else is airing right now, but even if it wasn't a lackluster season, Dororo would be good. The art is great, the story is definitely the kind of supernatural fairytale I can get into. The op's lyrics are a bit too modern for the setting, but otherwise, it's all really good. I am so very excited for this.
