Why don't CR ever seem to respond to these topics? Don't they realise that we live in an age where you can easily sink if you don't look after your community.

Issues like this should be fixed in a day for a company this size.

I hate to be the guy that says I'm also having the same problem and without any kind of solution. But I have the same problem and no solution.
Also using latest version of Chrome, all ad-block and other chrome extensions with background scripts are turned off.
No other language gives subtitles either.
Been having the issue for little over a week now.

There's no point in paying for this site if it doesn't give me what I pay for, but I also already paid for the yearly subscription.
I'm at a loss.

But if I can figure out what's up I'll try to remember to post back here.

Edit: You know what. I tried my last resort.
I disconnected my VPN and tried loading into crunchyroll again, the page only half loaded and the video only loaded on low quality but subtitles were working. I after re-enabling the VPN the page loads quickly and normally as it should, and subtitles still work.

I'm uncertain why that worked and I probably just got lucky, I'm guessing it has to do something with both the server I was connected to and the DNS.

I hope this helps other people.

Just ran into the issue with German using Firefox.

But after installing an HTML5 extension (just searched the add-ons for html5 and installed the Crunchyroll extension) the player will display the built-in subtitles menu for me.

The first two options show errors but one of these is in fact English so it's working... for the moment...

It's not a browser issue as I've tried it with chrome, microsoft edge, and firefox to no avail. The issue is with the video player as it doesn't always pick up the default English subtitles, instead going to Spanish as the first alternative. Crunchyroll really needs to fix this, at least add English as a click-able subtitle option. We shouldn't have to find other sites to watch naruto on when we're paying for crunchyroll. Please fix this crunchyroll staff!
Update: The android crunchrolly app works fine, I'm guessing the video player works differently for the app so subtitles aren't messed up. Still I'd rather not watch 200 naruto episodes on my phone...

I've been having the same problem. My current workaround is the Crunchyroll HTML5 extension for FireFox. It lets me click the player and select subtitles, which also reveals the problem. In the subtitle list I have: Dutch, Portuguese, and Espanol. There are two other options that both say Unknown with a bunch of gibberish in parenthesis. Selecting one of the "unknown" options (usually the 2nd one) brings back the English subtitles the way they were before the player change.

With this I can still watch episodes, but the whole ordeal is tedious because sometimes the episodes refuse to load with the addon so I have to toggle it on and off and refresh the page several times to get the video playing in the default player, then I have to turn the extension back on and restart the player again to get it to work again. I have to go through these steps every time I make a fresh visit to the site or sometimes every few episodes.

I've been a premium member ever since it was an option, never lapsed a payment once. It would be a shame if I had to cancel my membership over something like this, but if CR is going to sit here and let this minor wound fester I really might have to consider finding another way to get my anime fix. I'm not even sure why the default player doesn't let you change subtitles or toggle auto-play in the first place. Those are such basic features that even a free third-party extension is capable of providing that it boggles the mind that CR would release such a barebones player. As bad as the flash player was, this seems like one giant step backwards.

It's happening for everyone, and they STILL haven't fixed it. I'm legitimately paying for a premium service that doesn't have access to Naruto subs because they can't solve a single, small issue. It's beyond embarrassing.

It's strange, it only seems to do this on my computer? My PS4 and phone both automatically have it as English. I watched 67 episodes of Naruto and then suddenly it's German?!. This isn't the case with my other devices though, and I'm very confused. Anyone found the answer yet?

Still no fix, just got it with episode 156 of Naruto, even though I was watching the previous episode just fine an hour ago. I think I have French now..?

Also downloaded the extension for it and it did not work. I could have gotten the wrong one, I might try again.

Either way I don't understand why this is an issue at all for the Crunchyroll staff, just remove the default subtitles setting because that is obviously failing, and add a button for English.

This. I am beyond upset with CR at the moment. It has been MONTHS with English subtitle issues across a variety of shows. I am STILL waiting to re-watch the original Naruto...

Problem is, I see the default English subtitles, but I see either Spanish or German subtitles on top of them. Neither changing browsers nor logging out helps with this. Any suggestions?

Options:

1) Wait until they fix it

2) Watch on one of the apps instead of a PC (Roku, PS4, Android, iPhone, etc)

3) install the third-party HTML5 browser extension from the chrome store, which lets you choose the second "unknown" subtitle choice:

Similar problem to me, Microsoft Edge seems to put stuff in French. So far using the chrome extension is the only hope we have as of now until it's fixed.

I've had the exact same issue (watched like 100 episodes and then they bacame spanish subs) and I've tried using microsoft edge but the same thing is happening with the subtitles. I thought I should let people know here because I want this to be fixed.

I am having the no English subtitles issue in Chrome 70.0.3538.102 (64bit) for Naruto as well. After reading some of the responses regarding other apps and devices working I tested out the Crunchyroll app from Windows Store. This seems to function correctly, displaying English subtitles. So, if you are okay with not using a browser, then this might be a workaround.
